I'm scared. I jumped in the water with Bijou, and it was deeper than I knew, but I wanted to get back to shore. I wasn't afraid. I can swim. But I couldn't swim forward fast enough. I was pulled backwards like a rushing river of water dragging me downstream. But I wasn't too afraid, not then.
Yet, no matter how hard I tried I was pulled further out to sea. I wanted to scream, but my head and chest were pounding, and I heard nothing but my heart hammering in my head and chest. I couldn't see Bijou, and I was foolish and panicked, and I opened my mouth, I wanted to scream; but that was impossible.
That's all I remember, Grann, that; and Bijou is missing. I don't know where I am. When I woke on the beach and I looked and I saw, I knew I wasn't on the same beach. So now I think I'm lost. And as you can see, I didn't lose my waterproof sling bag, but I lost my dog, and I lost my shoes—and I lost my family.
They're searching for me. Ma mere would be worried and desperate. Papa would wait for me to return, but Ma mere would seek help and wouldn't wait. She said the 24-hour wait period was a myth, that time was crucial. No, unlike Papa, Ma mere would seek help right away; but Papa would make her wait.
I'll continue searching for Bijou. And I'll find my family, even if I search all day and night.
I'm scared Grann, maybe a bit more than I imagined.
