I wanted to smoke cure my salmon today, but wild animals tore into my soaking salmon! At this rate I'll be dead and starving by winter! Happily, it wasn't a total bust, I caught three crabs in my crab pot. And I'll use an empty crab pot in the future to store my soaking fish. That way they'll stay fresh and be safe against marauders.
I don't think I have to worry about smoking crabmeat for winter preservation, there will be fresh crab meat in the cold winter months, and maybe even some Chinook salmon running. But if I want to survive through winter, I'll need to save food now for winter.
I had a pessimistic mind, Grann. I was thinking I wouldn't catch any fish. Bijou and I settled on a low rock overlooking the south side of the island. I started thinking of the island as Ti Zile, or little island. We were between Sea Lion Sand and the boathouse, where I unpacked our breakfast of steamed crab and strawberries, and set up the fishing reels.
It was a hunch that told me the place was overflowing with sea life. I caught enough fish to replace the fish the marauders stole. I doubled my count plus an additional chinook salmon.
